The Neon Mural visible at Eglinton Avenue is a project by a private company: Madison Group, a real estate and land developer company based in Toronto, showcases an economic aspect present in cities, which is to maintain high property values. With that, the mural acts as a symbol of how privatized companies make sure that neighbourhoods are making sure that; the area entices people to move and have things that still improve the lifestyle of people moving in and out. This project in 2019 curated by Marnie Mendel, the mural done by David Guinn, and the light fixtures are by Drew Billau Madison Group, interest in investing in public art to brighten up the community, using their properties as a blank slate. This light-up mural is not one of a kind David Guinn and Drew Billau have similar art installations in Philadelphia called “Electric Philadelphia.”

While the image on the right is an artwork by Sonia Delaunay called Market at Minho, Image from Jewish Women’s Archive; is one example of the inspiration that the artists used for the Eglinton mural.

This art installation at Eglinton Ave. can easily catch the eye of someone, with colours influenced by the 1980s from the rise of technology and MTV and music videos. The abstract art is inspired by Sonia Delaunay, whose artworks follow the art movement Orphism. The mural displayed at Eglinton is astonishing with how it incorporates something timely and period-inspired art. The mural showcases a painting that contrasts with human experiences and modernity. Moreover, the ambiance changes throughout the day evoke a different mood and emotion.
